How to Measure a Horse for a Blanket, Sheet, or Rug
To determine what size blanket your horse needs, follow these simple instructions.
Tools needed:
- Measuring tape
- Friend to help hold the tape
Steps
Measuring a horse, especially a large horse, will be easier and more accurate if you can enlist the help of a friend.
- Move horse to an area that that has enough room for you and your helper to work safely with the horse.
- Have your helper stand at the horse’s head holding the end of the measuring tape at the center of the horse’s chest.
- With your helper holding the tape end pull the measuring tape around the side of the horse. Pull the tape until you reach the center of the horse’s tail.
- Make note of the measurement at the point where you wish the blanket to end.
- If the measurement is an odd number such as 43 or 91, round up to the next even number, 44 or 92. Rounding up will ensure that the blanket is roomy enough. Rounding down will likely result in the blanket or sheet being too tight.
- You should now have the correct measurement to order the correct blanket or sheet size.
